REFLEXIONES SOBRE EL ARTE DE ENSEÑAR LAS ARTES MARCIALES

Dirigir es una virtud, enseñar un arte…

Dirigir es una virtud, enseñar un arte y aprender una necesidad. Esta premisa resume el significado de la noble tarea del maestro de artes marciales que no se limita a transmitir conocimientos sino también el espíritu que lleva dentro.

Enseñar una disciplina marcial requiere de mucha madurez por parte del instructor pues debe manejar con absoluta destreza las cualidades y defectos de cada uno de sus estudiantes, y las características del conjunto de la clase, acercándose a ellos con amor pero con rigidez, con exigencia pero sin lágrimas; es decir, con prudencia, con equilibrio, con paciencia.

Si queremos llenar un frasco de perfume con la boca muy estrecha, debemos hacerlo gota a gota, puesto que si queremos vaciar de golpe el contenido de una vasija, el resultado será que el líquido se desborde y apenas llegue un poco a su interior, así como lo resumió el gran maestro Guichin Funakoshi “Da un paso por vez y la verdad se te revelará…” debemos comprender el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje del arte marcial, consiguiendo primero que el estudiante guste lo que hace, intentando que lo entienda y finalmente obteniendo que lo domine, pero poco a poco.

Otra de las virtudes que debe tener un instructor de artes marciales es discernir los alcances de los Principios y Códigos del arte marcial que quiere enseñar y cómo aplicarlos en la clase, manejar las miradas, las palabras, los castigos y la exigencia con mucha prudencia, sin romper el equilibrio, en resumen un verdadero desafío, como decía Aristóteles, “La rara habilidad de ponerse furioso con la persona correcta, en la intensidad correcta, en el momento correcto, por el motivo correcto y de forma correcta…”, es decir, dejar en el estudiante una enseñanza, un buen recuerdo inclusive luego de recibir un castigo, porque lo que se busca es transmitirle al estudiante conocimientos y espíritu, nunca temor. En otras palabras saber administrar el ying y el yang.

La relación entre maestro y discípulo puede ser la unión vital a través de la cual se abran nuevos horizontes o un motivo de lucha entre disciplina y descontrol, terminando en una frustración para ambos. En el primer caso el maestro se convertirá en una fuente de inspiración para el estudiante que encenderá el deseo por aprender y la pasión por conocer la verdad mientras que en el segundo será simplemente un proceso forzado tan parecido a presionar algo dentro de un molde preestablecido, sin extraer el contenido (potencial particular) que existe dentro de él.

Es importante descubrir el porque de las fallas de los estudiantes, en algunos casos su desmotivación sin juzgar apresuradamente sus actitudes, sin convertirse en el elefante frente a la hormiga, ponderando sus valores, su perseverancia, disciplina, humildad y resaltando sus cualidades, analizando sus fortalezas y debilidades y algo muy importante, apoyar al máximo al que más se equivoca. Es igual que una cesta llena de fruta, no toda es útil para comerla fresca, alguna se elegirá para hacer una mermelada, pero ambas servirán como alimento. De la misma manera no todos los estudiantes serán buenos para el combate, algunos serán mejores para realizar una hyung, otros para las técnicas básicas, pero cada uno, si bien no logra un 100%, podrá conseguir un 60% en lo que más se acerca a sus características físicas y emocionales.

El potencial de una escuela no es el instructor o el maestro, sino los estudiantes, puesto que tienen en su interior un potencial dormido que simplemente espera ser descubierto y esa es la tarea de los instructores, creer en ese poder, incentivarlo, liberarlo y cuidarlo. Aquel instructor que no entiende a sus alumnos, no se preocupa por ellos y no los respeta como personas, de ninguna manera podrá satisfacer sus expectativas, mucho menos convertirse en modelo al cuál desean llegar.

La labor de enseñar un arte marcial debe ser la de estimular y liberar el potencial latente en la vida de cada uno de los estudiantes, un mal proceso de enseñanza puede obtener un producto prácticamente desastroso, es decir podemos formar un artista marcial o un monstruo con capacidades peligrosamente adiestradas, todo depende de los valores que inculquemos en el proceso de enseñanza, la filosofía que apliquemos y la paciencia y amor que pongamos en el trabajo.

Un maestro con el correr del tiempo descubre varios secretos; deseo compartir con ustedes algunos que me ayudaron mucho en mi vida como instructor de artes marciales, ellos les permitirán, por mucho tiempo lograr excelentes resultados en sus estudiantes.

– Elija entre todos a los mejores estudiantes, los más destacados, los que tengan mayores aptitudes, entrega y condiciones para la práctica, motívelos con especial dedicación.

– Delegue responsabilidades dentro la escuela y en la clase, descubra en cada uno de los alumnos más destacados su potencial y sus mejores técnicas y denles la oportunidad de que las enseñen a sus compañeros menos aventajados.

– Realice en la clase solo aquello que nadie hace mejor que usted, exija solo aquello que usted puede hacer, aproveche la juventud y las fortalezas de sus estudiantes para mostrar sus mejores técnicas, usted enseñe los secretos para lograrlas.

– Apoye al máximo al que más se equivoque, acérquese a él, descubra sus problemas; encontrará grandes sorpresas.

– Nunca diga la frase “está mal”, busque sinónimos o cualquier otra frase o palabra que haga comprender al estudiante que no lo hizo como usted lo esperaba.

– Gane la autoridad en la clase y en la escuela, no con temor sino con amor, no necesita mostrarse “amoroso” con sus estudiantes, la sinergia existente hará que ellos descubran en sus actitudes el amor que pone en su trabajo.

– Si tiene en sus manos la posibilidad de enseñar. Hágalo bien, sino, no lo haga, ya que puede obtener productos muy diferentes a los que soñó.

– No todos los estudiantes son iguales, sea paciente con ellos, exija a todos, pero con la prudencia de comprender las limitaciones de cada uno.

– Sepa “perdonar” algunos errores y desganos, quizá el estudiante tuvo un mal día, o quizás le duela el estómago.

– Nunca se de por vencido con un estudiante, su trabajo es que todos salgan de la clase con el convencimiento de que pueden lograr algo si realmente lo intentan, todo depende de la confianza que les de en sí mismos. Aumente su autoestima cada día con comentarios alentadores, nunca los avergüence en público, es el peor error de un instructor puesto que perderá un estudiante para siempre.

– Valore los pequeños logros en sus estudiantes, si usted critica la mínima falla lo único que consigue es destruir la confianza del niño, adolescente o adulto, deje que se equivoquen, de los errores es que uno construye su experiencia y sus conocimientos.

– Logre que sus estudiantes controlen su energía mediante la voluntad, ya que si la energía es mayor que su voluntad no aceptarán su guía ni sus llamadas de atención y tendrá serios problemas de disciplina.

Otro de los aspectos que tenemos que tomar en cuenta al momento de enseñar es el de lograr una empatía (sentir dentro) con los estudiantes en particular y con la clase en general “La vida es una comedia para aquellos que piensan, y una tragedia para aquellos que sienten” . La empatía se construye en base a tomar conciencia de uno mismo. Mientras más amplios seamos en el manejo de nuestras emociones más habilidad encontraremos para saber lo que siente el otro, entrando en ese momento una amplia gama de situaciones que únicamente podremos percibir mediante señales, muchas veces silenciosas, de los estudiantes, el secreto consiste en descubrir “decodificar” esas señales que intentan comunicarnos mediante canales no verbales un cierto mensaje. El no hacerlo significa obtener el resultado totalmente contrario la antipatía que bloquea automáticamente todos los canales posibles de comunicación tanto verbal como no verbal.

La filosofía de los cinturones nos enseña que el estudiante novato, el cinturón blanco, nos entrega la confianza de escribir en su vida, una hoja de papel en blanco, todo aquello que nosotros queramos poner en ella. Su vida es como un brillante, si lo cortamos y lo pulimos se convierte en una hermosa joya, si lo lanzamos será simplemente una roca.

Todos los estudiantes tienen cuerpo, mente y espíritu, cada uno diferente al otro, es el maestro el que con su virtud, experiencia y capacidad extrae las virtudes y descubre sus capacidades, empujándolos, animándolos en cada clase, permitiendo que sus conocimientos y su espíritu fluyan a través de sus palabras, de sus técnicas, de sus acciones, y si los tratamos bien llegarán a la cima, si los castigamos decaerán, si los rechazamos morirán.
